Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare (JHAH) is the result of a joint venture between Saudi Aramco and Johns Hopkins Medicine, a complex of company-operated and privately contracted hospitals that serve Saudi Aramco employees and their dependents, numbering approximately 350,000 people in total.

JHAH wanted to overhaul their dated website, which was difficult to navigate from a user POV and difficult to update from the backend administrative side.

There was a lot of complex information to get to grips with, from understanding the JHAH offering and how it differed across the five sites, being sensitive to the numerous specialisms the hospitals had to offer and the unique information each would need to provide to patients. To understanding the basics of the Saudi healthcare system and the journey a patient might take through the various services at the clinics and hospitals.

An added twist to this project was that any page layouts for the site would be required to work in both a left to right and right to left reading pattern, as the site would be presented in both English and Arabic. Plus the end product was to be handed off to the client in order that they could run the site.

The solution was to create a comprehensive ‘Atomic’ system of content blocks, flexible enough to maintain the site brand continuity for whatever section of the site it was used for and future-proof enough to allow the site to grow. It also needed to provide a simple user experience in the backend of the CMS for the client to keep the site updated and create new pages with ease.
